Tipton is seeing some significant changes, with investment in the town centre, new homes being built and improvements to public spaces all helping to give this historic Black Country town a fresh look.
According to Sandwell Council, the wider Tipton regeneration project is being supported by £20 million of government funding, alongside additional investment from the council.
One of the most noticeable changes has been along Owen Street, where improvement works were completed in August 2026. Roads and pavements have been resurfaced, new low-energy street lighting installed, bus stops and shelters improved and pedestrian crossings upgraded.
The aim is simple: to make the town centre safer, brighter and easier to get around, while encouraging more people to visit and support local shops and businesses.
New homes for Tipton
Housing also forms a major part of the regeneration.
Work is under way on 55 new affordable homes on Union Street, with a further 15 homes planned through the redevelopment of the former Conservative Club. Importantly, the locally listed building is set to be retained and refurbished as part of the scheme, combining new development with a little of Tipton’s heritage.
Further improvements are also planned around the town centre, including the canal walkway off Union Street and areas around the shopping precinct.
A town with plenty going for it
For people who know Tipton well, its location has always been one of its strengths. Sitting at the heart of the Black Country, it offers convenient access to Dudley, West Bromwich, Wolverhampton and Birmingham, while retaining a strong identity of its own.
Tipton also has a wide variety of property, from traditional terraced homes and established family neighbourhoods to more modern developments.
Regeneration doesn’t transform a town overnight, but continued investment in housing, streets and public spaces is certainly a positive sign.
For Tipton, there is plenty happening – and plenty of reason to look at the town with fresh eyes.
